The open part of the WELMEC Committee Meeting took place in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 18 and 19 June 2025. CECIP was kindly invited to attend. Many thanks to Klenovsky Pavel, Jan Deconinck and Mehrija Hasicic for chairing and organising such a successful meeting. WELMEC is one of CECIP's key partners and a crucial platform for harmonisation and exchange in legal metrology. The Technical Guides produced by the WELMEC working groups contribute to legal clarity and a harmonised legal metrology framework within the EU single market.
On 19 June, CECIP's Secretary General, Samuel Schmidt, gave a speech about the need to further deepen the EU single market in the legal metrology sector. The current fragmentation of the legal framework causes problems at multiple levels, which extend far beyond our sector and hinder the EU's overall competitiveness. CECIP urges support for the EU Commission's proposals for a 28th regime and an EU market surveillance authority.
Effective consumer protection and a level playing field can only be guaranteed by a harmonised, clear and binding legal framework. CECIP emphasises the importance of close cooperation in aligning the interests of member states, supporting the EU Commission in strengthening EU competitiveness and reducing bureaucratic burden, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
